Each Western Province groups in addition to the Golden Lions and Pumas recorded large wins on Day One of many Grant Khomo Week at Hoër Boland Agricultural Faculty within the Western Cape.
The Pumas made an early assertion within the nationwide U16 match once they scored six tries within the 38-10 win over Griquas. Flyhalf Matthew Abbey contributed 13 factors – 4 conversions and a strive – to the Mpumalanga aspect’s trigger.
The Golden Lions proved too robust for the Valke, scoring seven tries in a 39-7 victory. Alternative hooker Clinton Agu touched down twice for the Gauteng workforce.
The Western Province XV claimed the most important win of the day, beating Free State XV 50-3. Eight tries had been scored by the Cape aspect, with centres Markus Miller and Tristan Joubert bagging a brace apiece. Miller slotted 5 conversions to complete with a private tally of twenty-two factors.
There have been a number of tight encounters on day one, with the Leopards edging the Limpopo Blue Bulls 15-12, and the Blue Bulls overcoming a nine-point half-time deficit to beat the Sharks 31-27. In the meantime, Free State U16 fought again after trailing on the break to down Border 29-20.
Within the final fixture of the day, WP U16 scored seven tries of their 41-12 win over Boland.
The Grant Khomo Week will proceed from 8.30am on Tuesday, with Boland set to face the Leopards on the A discipline, and Zimbabwe scheduled to play the Free State XV on the B discipline.
