Dennis achieves historic podium success

The spectacular accident between Evans (5 penalties in London) and Cassidy was the big topic after the 14th of 16 races of the season, but shouldn’t detract from Dennis’ performance. Although the Brit only achieved his second win of the season in Rome after triumphing at the season opener in Mexico, he did achieve something historic with a total of nine podium finishes: no other driver in the history of Formula E has achieved so many podiums in one season.

Dennis leads the overall standings with 195 points. Cassidy, in second place, has 171 points so far and is 24 points behind. A total of 58 World Championship points (25 per victory, 3 per pole position and 1 per fastest race lap) will be awarded at the two races in London. If Dennis has 30 points more than the runner-up after the first run in the port area of ​​​​the British capital, he sacks the title early.

“I’m in the best position and I’d rather be in mine than anyone else’s,” said Dennis. “It’s been going very well for the last six or seven races. If we continue to work like this, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t do well in London too. The track is similar to Rome in terms of the corners, so I’m really expecting the Jaguars again strong. A 24-point lead helps, but we have to keep working hard.”

Evans: “Need all the gods on my side”

Evans, who with 151 points is already 44 points behind championship leader Dennis: “My championship is pretty much over. It’s not over yet, but it will be very difficult for me. I need all the gods on my side. I’ve had a lot this year Bad luck, but that’s how it goes sometimes.”

Evans, who has consistently competed for Jaguar since his Formula E debut in 2016/17 and has been in the inner circle of title contenders almost every year, had to be content with the runner-up title last year. World Cup rival Stoffel Vandoorne (formerly Mercedes, now DS Penske) traveled to the final in Seoul with a 36-point lead and confidently closed the sack there.

Wehrlein is waiting for the first title since 2015

For Wehrlein in his fifth and Porsche in his fourth Formula E season, the title run is more or less over the top. The gap to Porsche customer driver Dennis is 49 points. Wehrlein had made a brilliant start to the season with two wins and three podium places, but later missed the big points that were decisive for the title. With four podium finishes – including three wins – he has achieved the fewest of all title contenders.

Without completely extraordinary circumstances, Wehrlein can practically write off his first title win since the DTM triumph in 2015. “We’re looking more towards the team championship now,” he didn’t have too high hopes for the individual ranking. In the team championship, the Zuffenhausen-based company occupies second place with 239 points behind the Jaguar customer team Envision, which was able to collect 253 championship points thanks to Cassidy and Sebastien Buemi.
