Waiting game continues for several Canadian players at rainy Wimbledon

LONDON – A number of Canadian tennis gamers must wait no less than one other day earlier than taking part in their first-round matches at Wimbledon.

Moist climate has hampered early play on the Grand Slam competitors with rain forcing the suspension of a number of matches Tuesday.

Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., Rebecca Marino of Vancouver and Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga, Ont., had their respective first-round matches pushed again to Wednesday.

Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Carol Zhao of Richmond Hill, Ont., remained on Tuesday’s schedule.

Radu Albot of Moldova had a 7-5, 2-2 lead on Shapovalov when their first-round match was suspended Monday because of darkness. Zhao had but to start her opening match towards Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch.

There have been blended outcomes for Canada on Day 1 of primary draw competitors. Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Que., gained her first-round match whereas Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No. 11 seed, dropped his opener.
